Nursery Teacher - Mrs Plume

Mrs Plume is our Nursery Teacher and Mrs Brown, Mrs Walton, Miss Cairns and Mrs Nangla are our Early Years Teaching Assistants.

Nursery Provision

Gledhow Nursery offers 15 hours of nursery provision taken in one of the following ways:

  • Two and a half days - Monday and Tuesday 8.45am to 2.45pm; Wednesday 8.45am to 11.45 am
  • Two and a half days - Wednesday 12.15pm to 3.15pm; Thursday and Friday 8.45am to 2.45pm

We also offer 30hours provsion for those children who are eligible.

  • Five full days - Monday to Friday 8.45am to 2.45pm

Top ups may be purchased at £5 per half hour to extend sessions from 2.45pm to 3.15pm.

 

 

 

Nursery Information

Class Routines

Children are asked to bring a bottle of water for our  'snack' during each session. Milk and fruit is also available.

At the start of each session children arrive at nursery,' self register' by answering the question of the day, hang up thier coat, wash their hands and go to the carpet where the nursery session is started by the staff.

At the end of each session the children are collected via the Nursery doors. Which is accessed by the Brackenwood Drive entrance.

If your child is going to be picked up by anyone other than the regular carer you need to inform Nursery Staff or the office before the end of school. If Nursery Staff are unaware of any arrangements they will need to phone you to confirm this is agreed. Please make sure the Nursery Staff know who will be picking up your child to save any problems at the end of the day.

The rest of the session is a mixture of staff and pupil led activities.

Curriculum Enrichment

Each term we try to help 'bring the curriculum to life' with an extra activity whether it be a trip, visit or visitor. We appreciate that these additional items often have a cost but they are an essential part of our successful school.

Planned items for Nursery are:

Meeting some owls

Seasonal Walks - October, December, February, March, May, July.

Celebration parties

Trying something new - sewing, playing a musical instrument

Posting a Mother's Day card 

Caring for eggs in an incubator

Easter Bounce - March/April

Palnting and growing salad, vegetables and flowers

Tasting porridge

Making a sandwich

Fun Day - July

Nursery Admissions

Parents may put their child's name on the nursery waiting list at any time. Please contact the main school office:

Children are admitted during the term after they turn three years old, if we have availablility.

Before admission, 'getting to know you open session' will be arranged at nursery, and a home visit is normally made to ensure that the transition to nursery is smooth.

To support your child in getting ready for nursery, please encourage them to be as independent as possible. E.g. Using the toilet, washing their hands, and putting on their coat.

Nursery Curriculum

In Nursery, children spend a large part of their day learning independently in the different areas of provision. Here they access learning opportunities through their curiosity and interests.  Our enhancements to these areas support development and progress in the following curriculum areas:

Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

Children have 'free flow' opportunity to learn outside too, which is why it is crucial that outdoor clothing is brought with them everyday. 

We have 4 adult led group time sessions each day - stories, songs, rhymes  - as well as adult led activities in the areas of provision which form part of our daily structure and routines.

It is recommended that practitioners in the Early Years follow children's interests as much as possible for our themes, therefore we don't stick rigidly to a curriculum planner. Instead, we will communicate by 'Tapestry' what topics we aim to promote so that you can support learning at home. Please keep up to date with individual children’s interests via Tapestry, our online learning journal, and feel free to add your own comments and observations. 

We use this 'Top Ten' as a guide in preparing your child to start school in the academic year (September - August) they are 5years old.
