Gledhow Primary School School creates a new ambition for EVERY child

legacy

Gledhow Primary School is partnering with PE and Sport specialists Create Development to spearhead PE initiative.

We are the first regionally to embark on the real legacy journey to create a new ambition for every child. Not only are we on a mission to get children more active and change the way PE is perceived, we’re also taking it many steps further to ensure every child develops a healthy relationship with physical activity for life.

We are doing this by bringing the school, home and community together to enable cultural change. Our journey commenced with real PE training for all teachers in September 2019 to improve the PE provision, develop the whole child and we will now extend across the school to include supporting families and the wider school community. Gledhow will be supported with teacher training, school based support, family engaging strategies, enrichment and competitive opportunities and supporting resources from Create Development and Active Schools Consultants all through a holistic approach to develop children's physical, personal, social and emotional skills.

The main outcome is that the personalised, two-year programme creates a real legacy for every child. Only 150 schools nationally will be able to access the real legacy pilot and we are one of those lucky schools.

Government PE Funding

Physical activity and sport is fundamental to Gledhow children, staff and parents. At Gledhow we strive to provide children with the opportunity to compete at both intra and inter levels of competition. In 2018, we began our 30:30 initiative where we are offering pupils 30 minutes of exercise every day at school. This is delivered through active lessons, structured play and dinner times and as part of our extra-curricular activities. The Sport Premium grant gives the school vital funding which is used to offer specialist teaching, top quality equipment, transport and improved levels of physical activity.

Sports' Resources

Though we have always invested heavily in our PE provision, the additional PE Funding has allowed us to ensure that more sports and activities are fully resourced.

We have been able to purchase goalposts for our competitive representative football matches. Lunchtime games equipment was purchased to allow for a wider range of outdoor games. PE equipment for lessons and Sports Day was also enhanced which is also used in our many after school clubs.

Specialist SEN play items have been purchased and playground markings were added to our outdoor areas to enable more effective team games provision to be made for children.
